PANCake Task Force

About PANCake

Provider and Nursing Collaboration — through Advocacy, Kindness, and Education — is dedicated to strengthening teamwork in the labor & delivery unit. We break down silos between nurses and providers by increasing exposure to interdisciplinary roles, providing structured peer mentorship, and creating intentional space for bidirectional feedback and problem-solving. Through education and shared experiences, PANCake fosters a culture of trust, community, and respect that improves both team dynamics and patient-centered care.

What We Do

Oversee a peer nurse mentorship program to introduce incoming interns to the nursing community and promote early, supportive relationships.

Organize educational and social events that build camaraderie and a team-based approach to continuous learning on labor & delivery.

Establish a formal platform that facilitates dialogue and interdisciplinary feedback between the provider and nursing communities.

Assess quality improvement initiatives and their impact on trainee development and overall work culture.

The Team

An optimal task force has 7–8 representatives: residents (PGY-2 through PGY-4), 4–5 elected nurses, and 1–2 attending faculty.

Intern Integration Leads

Mentorship

Manage the Adopt-an-Intern peer mentorship program — recruiting nurse mentors, coordinating pairings, ensuring mentors meet expectations, and designing meaningful intern experiences during orientation and throughout the year.

Culture & Wellness

Serve as a neutral intermediary for conflict resolution — a confidential, informal avenue for residents or nurses to voice concerns, seek guidance, and connect with the appropriate faculty member or service.

Education & Outreach

Evaluate and disseminate the impact of PANCake initiatives — researching similar programs, collecting and analyzing outcomes data, and synthesizing findings into presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts.

Build a system to collect interdisciplinary feedback, analyze trends, and develop data-driven solutions — exploring standardized communication between teams and monitoring trainee development and unit culture.

Community Engagement & Events

Plan and execute community-building events and educational gatherings (like Can Opener Conversations), provide updates at departmental meetings, organize quarterly faculty check-ins, delegate tasks across the task force, and mentor the junior resident representative to prepare them to step up.

Internal Outreach & Organization

Collaborate with the Intern Integration Leads on orientation activities, keep nurse mentors updated throughout the year, and assist the senior representatives in preparation to assume the role the following year.
